Paris in the spring is one of my favorite times to visit, and one of the most popular seasons for good reason. The city wakes up from its winter slumber with soft pink blossoms and sun drenched cafés that beg for a long afternoon and a glass of rosé.

Packing for Paris in the spring, however, can be a bit challenging. Between crisp mornings, sunny afternoons, and the occasional rain shower that appears when you least expect it.

Layers are key for navigating spring weather in Paris. Follow along for exactly what to pack so you feel prepared, comfortable, and looking Parisian chic.

Key Items to Pack for Paris in the Spring

What to Expect for the Weather in Paris in the Spring

what to pack for Paris in the spring everyday parisian

The weather can be cold and rainy, or even snowy, in late March and early April at the beginning of spring. April is typically warm and sunny with some rain. May tends to be one of the rainiest months of the year. Pack and plan accordingly if you are planning a trip in May. Expect your spring trip to Paris to include at least one rainy day.  It’s a good idea to pack an umbrella and waterproof shoes. Keep your umbrella in your everyday bag because you never know when a shower might pop up, even on the sunniest days. Rain or shine, your Paris trip will be a great time.

Spring weather in Paris can be varied, depending on the time of year you visit. You will want to pack layers of scarves, sweaters, coats, and even boots. Sneakers are great for exploring Paris. You can see more details below.

The cherry blossoms happen earlier each year, and you can expect them from late March to mid-April. One of my favorite places to spot them is the Eiffel Tower. Enjoy a picnic here on a sunny spring day. Late April is the perfect time to visit for warm weather before the crowds arrive.

You can see this post for ideas on where to visit Paris in Bloom.

Coats to Pack for Paris in the Spring

Sézane trench coat Paris

I highly recommend packing at least one coat for Paris. A trench coat is a classic French wardrobe staple, and you will see Parisian women wearing trench coats on sunny and rainy days. This isn’t just a raincoat; it is a style statement. Since the early mornings and evenings can get cold, I recommend packing a light or silk scarf as a layering accessory. A leather jacket isn’t a bad idea, and you will find another classic French staple piece in Parisian fashion. I purchased mine from Madewell a few years ago and have gotten so much use from it over the years. (sized up to a medium)

Where to Shop in Paris for Spring Clothes

If you feel underdressed or out of place due to what you packed, do not stress. There are plenty of shops where you can pick up a souvenir such as a coat, a pair of sneakers, a scarf, or a bag. After all, Paris is the city of fashion. Some shops that I love include Maje, Soeur, Sandro, SézaneComptoir des Cotonniers, Galleries Lafayette which, has just about every brand under one roof.

Blazer Jackets for Spring in Paris

I love a good blazer jacket for spring to layer up. Throw this over a blouse or button-up. Paris is showing them in bright, bold colors. I am not there yet and prefer my basic navy, camel, and black staples. You choose what is best for you and go with it!

The Best Bags for Paris in the Spring

what to pack for paris in the spring everyday parisian

You may be surprised, but fanny packs are trending in Parisian fashion. They are called “banane” because they are shaped like a banana. I own a bag by the famous French brand Rive Droite, which you will see all over Paris. You can buy one at their store in the Marais or at Galleries Lafayette, where I purchased mine.

Tote bags like my favorite, Cuyana, are perfect for carrying around a camera, wallet, and umbrella. A crossbody or banane bag will be suitable for carrying a few things. For those of you with a Lululemon everywhere bag, you can wear this in Paris if you are dressed up a bit. I wouldn’t wear gym wear, sneakers, and a Lululemon bag around Paris if you don’t want to stand out like a tourist.

French basket bag for picnics in Paris

Crossbody bags are trendy and come in a variety of colors and fabrics. Mine are classic black and brown, with a clasp to secure my belongings. A basket bag is a fun Parisian accessory when the weather is warm enough.

Paris neutral wardrobe for spring

When it comes to packing for Paris in the spring, I love to pack neutral colors to mix and match. A pair of black pants, jeans, ankle boots, basic tees, and a cashmere sweater can all be combined as a capsule wardrobe. Add your trench or leather coat to create different outfits. French classic styles are evolving, but a neutral color palette is still on repeat. On a few of my last trips, there was still a lot of black-on-black. Tights (specifically black) are on trend and a good way to keep warm under a skirt, shorts, or black dress.

Layer your favorite t-shirt, camisole, or tank under sweaters for extra warmth.

The Best Walking Shoes for Paris

Comfortable walking shoes are essential when discovering Paris. You never want to get a blister or have sore feet on vacation. Paris is best explored on foot. I highly recommend flats instead of heels. The cobblestones aren’t so easy to navigate in heels. For sneakers, I love Veja, Samba, or New Balance. To prevent blisters, I swear by Moleskin inside of your shoes. You can buy it on Amazon or at your local drugstore. For flats, my go-to is the Margaux Demi. (wearing below)

Margaux Demi flats a comfortable shoe option for exploring Paris by foot

Sneakers are HOT right now in Paris, and I am not talking about your Nike running shoes. Veja, a French shoe brand, is available at Nordstrom or shops in Paris. This is a brand I saw all over Paris, and I have two pairs myself. You will want to wear no-show socks with them.

Skirts and Dresses for Paris

Staud dress Paris spring

I love wearing skirts and dresses in the spring. Dress up your Parisian outfit in a leather jacket, with ballet flats, and a scarf. Have fun with this, and enjoy your vacation. The French aren’t typically dressed in leggings and sweatshirts. Leave those at home and pack these instead for some inspiration for some of my current favorites.

A-line skirts and mini pleated skirts have been spotted on the streets of Paris. If you want to pack a dress, below are some great options. You can never go wrong with a little black dress, paired with tights on cold days or ballet flats on warmer days.

The Sézane Pippa is a classic dress and perfect for exploring Paris. It is super comfortable and easy to pack. Wearing a size small.

Spring Layers for Paris

Sweaters are great for Paris in the spring. In the colder months, you will need an extra layer under your trench or leather jacket.

Spring weather in Paris will surprise you. I highly recommend packing layers. It snowed last April 1st. A camisole, sweater, scarf, and light jacket should do the trick. Depending on the month, there will be cold days, and you will want warm, closed-toed shoes. The Gaspard from Sézane is one of my favorite layering pieces. Even in the spring months, when it is warm, you can throw it over a tank or dress.

My go-to shirts are button-downs and blouses, which work with pants and skirts. To complete the look, throw on a leather jacket or trench coat.

The Best Pants to Pack for Paris in The Spring

Jeans are perfect and completely acceptable dressed up. They are wearing high-waisted, cropped, and skinny jeans. These from Frame are new favorites, along with these from Paige. Comfortable and easy to pair with a blouse or sweater.

Spring Accessories to Pack for Paris

An umbrella is essential when visiting Paris in the spring, and good, comfortable walking shoes are also essential. You want sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, depending on how sunny it is. Make sure to pack a top zip bag for walking around Paris. You always want to keep your belongings secure. My favorite bags include a simple Longchamp bag from Cuyana and Polène, which fits my camera, phone, and everything I need.

In terms of safety, I recommend you brush up on these tips. I keep a small wallet with one credit card and an ID; the rest is in the apartment or hotel safe. If lost, one always has a backup to get through the rest of the trip.

I hope this helps you plan what to pack for the city of lights. My goal is for you to have the best trip. You can download The Paris Guide for more details on where to stay, eat, drink, and explore in Paris. It is filled with helpful maps and links to explore hidden gems.

What to Pack for Paris in December

Paris in December is one of the most magical times to visit Paris. The city is filled with festive lights and decorations for the Christmas season. I highly recommend adding Paris during the holidays to your must-see list. If you are traveling to Paris in December or know someone who is, please share this post. Here is what to pack for Paris in December.

What to Pack for Paris in December

The Weather in Paris in December

Dress warmly and in layers! Paris can be extremely cold in December, with a chance of snow if you are lucky. The weather is damp and chilly. Check the weather in advance before you pack and plan accordingly. I always recommend packing a travel umbrella just in case, and hand warmers are not a bad idea. You can purchase them in Paris, but it’s also easy to throw them in your suitcase and have them ready to go as you walk out to explore.

What to Expect in Paris in December

Parisian Cafés and boulangeries often decorate their interiors and exteriors with holiday lights. You will see a beautiful display all over the city filled with Christmas cheer. In patisserie windows, Bouche de Noël in all shapes, sizes, and flavors. You can purchase a small one to taste, or bring home a large one to your Paris apartment to share with friends and family. Oysters are sold outside of grocery stores, from the fanciest of stores to the corner grocery. Champagne and chocolates are also available at a variety of price points to celebrate the season and make great gifts.

What to See in Paris in December

Don’t miss the Christmas holiday markets in December. There are a few different ones that run throughout the city. Outside Notre Dame, there is a small market with food and handmade items, and Saint-Germain-des-Prés also has a Christmas market that runs along the street outside the church.

Christmas trees Bon Marche Paris

The Department Stores such as Galeries Lafayette and Bon Marché decorate for the Christmas season. Inside, you will find beautiful displays in the center of the store. Don’t miss the holiday windows at Bon Marché, a favorite and must-see stop when I am in town over the Christmas season. Warm up at Le Grand Épiciere, browse the seasonal foods for purchase, and pick up take-home souvenirs. You can pick up your French butter here, too!

Coats For Paris in December

Long Wool coats are best for keeping warm in Paris during cold weather. This scarf coat, this navy coat, and this belted coat are all great options.

I highly recommend one of these Uniqlo layering jackets for additional warmth on really cold days. Trust me!

The Best Shoes to Pack for Paris in December

what to pack for Paris in December

Comfortable walking shoes are a must. Due to the weather in December, I highly recommend a water-resistant or waterproof boot. These Chelsea boots from Margaux are my favorite and are comfortable. It is what I have been wearing the most in Chicago, even in the snow. Black ankle boots are trending among Parisian women right now and are a strong shoe option. For boots, thick warm socks are a must! Pack extra just in case they get wet, and you want to refresh a pair.

Knee-high black boots with dresses and skirts are also popular on the streets of Paris. I own these from Laroudé after seeing this as the hot trend last December. I knew it was something I wanted to invest in for my wardrobe. Margaux also offers a similar pair, the City Boot.

Dressing Up In Paris in December

cocktails in Paris

If you are headed to Paris in December, don’t forget to pack a little black dress. Even if you are solo, I highly recommend taking yourself out to dinner, a cocktail, or a fancy tea for at least one day. If a little black dress isn’t your thing, I love a little sparkle like this top with a black velvet blazer and coated jeans. You could also try a silk skirt like this one, booties, and a sweater. For a pop of red, try this reader-favorite skirt.

Cold Weather Accessories for Paris in the Winter Months

Warm gloves are a must. If, for some reason, you forget to pack yours, you can pick up a good pair at Galeries Lafayette or Bon Marché. These make a great souvenir if you forgot yours, so don’t panic. I have been eyeing these from Me+Em lately; they are beautiful fashion accessories. You can also consider wool or cashmere gloves to keep your hands warm.

black tights in paris

Boots and black tights are very much a thing in Paris. You will see this trend across the board. I love buying tights from Calzedonia or Sézane when I am in Paris. Both are reasonably priced, and Calzedonia has some fun options!

Black tights and Boots Paris

I love these Sarah Flint perfect zip booties for dressing up, but still being comfortable.

Sweaters for Paris in December

chunky knits for Paris

Cashmere sweaters and wool are ideal for the cold weather. Chunky knits are ideal. I always recommend packing a café sweater. Something extra warm and cozy for a cold or rainy day, to sit inside and soak up Paris from the window. I love this Alex Mill turtleneck sweater.

What Not to Pack for Paris in December

Leave the high heels at home; the cobblestone streets make walking difficult. You will be much more comfortable with flat boots or a block heel this time of year. You will want a warm coat; see the details and ideas above. A trench coat or leather coat will not be warm enough in Paris this time of year.

What to Pack for The Plane Ride to Paris

I love to be comfortable on a flight, but I don’t typically wear athleisure wear or pajamas. Yes, it is an overnight flight, and I want to be cozy, but you can still look and feel pulled together. My travel uniform includes these AYR pants, a white t-shirt, and a sweater. I love this one from La Ligne, which has been on multiple Paris flights. This sweater from Kilte is also a great option and is made of washable cashmere. For socks, I do the Bombas compression socks and boots. If you are checking a bag and have room, you can throw your boots in there and wear sneakers. I find that when moving around the airport and walking, you want to be comfortable.

Me+Em Scarf

For December, a travel cashmere scarf is ideal. This one from White and Warren or Me+Em is a favorite. You won’t regret this extra layer for warmth, and you can use it under your coat as you are out and about in Paris, too.

white and warren scarf

P.S. I also love this silk AYR button-down that makes a great layering piece.

You can see my long-haul travel uniform formula here. Everything I pack for an international flight.

My whole family loves Away suitcases, and my husband has a strict rule not to check a bag. I use the larger carry-on bag from Away, which fits in the overhead bin on my United flight. If you have questions about sizing, I recommend checking the website and your preferred airline’s requirements. These hold up well over time and feature thoughtful design, with extra pockets to keep items safe and organized. I love the Everywhere bag for my personal item on the flight. It holds my laptop, camera, travel adapters, and more.

what to pack for Paris in December

You can use a small pouch or parcel to keep your melatonin, vitamins, hand sanitizer, tissues, and other essentials in one place. I always find this helps me, especially as the plane transitions into sleep mode and the lights turn off. I need a sleep mask like this one for the flight.

Tech Accessories for A Long Haul Flight

I recently discovered this adapter that connects to your seat screen so you can use Bluetooth on your headphones. If you have the budget, these Bose headphones are a worthwhile splurge. I have lost too many airpods on the flight over the years. This Cuyana leather bag keeps all my cords and tech accessories organized. I like being able to grab just what I need in the middle of the flight and have it handy.

what to pack for Paris in the autumn

Paris in the autumn is one of the best times to visit. The city of light is full of energy. You will notice the changing colors on the trees and ivy filling the city pop against the neutral greys and blues of the building’s architecture. Paris weather starts warm at the beginning of fall and slowly transitions with the season to crisp mornings and evenings. This post will help you better understand what to pack for Paris in the fall, from the best layers, sweaters, boots, and coats to pack. You will be ready to explore the city of lights in the autumn.

Paris Autumn Weather: What to Expect

Paris in the fall. Place des Vosges fountain

In early autumn, expect warmer days and lots of sunshine. The average September temperature typically ranges from the low 70s, and this trend can persist into early October. There will be plenty of sunny days in Paris, so don’t forget sunscreen and sunglasses. Discover this post for what to pack for Paris in September.

When packing for Paris, I recommend bringing waterproof boots, an umbrella, and a trench coat or a stylish raincoat for the inevitable rain. Even when rain isn’t in the forecast, it is good to plan for it. Paris can throw an unexpected shower even on the sunniest days. October weather starts warm, and you may need a sweater or light jacket. The weather changes progressively over the month, cooling off. Evening temperatures can drop into the 50s toward the end of October, so a light scarf is recommended. You will want to ensure you are comfortable enough for dinners and sightseeing in the evening. The temperature drops in November and early December, so it is essential to pack a wool coat for the cold weather. Of course, there are many shops around Paris where you can pick up anything you have forgotten. I love Sézane, Sandro, and Maje for coats.

There will be plenty of sunny days in Paris, so don’t forget sunscreen and sunglasses.

Preparing for rainy days is a good idea when planning a trip to Paris. Activities on a rainy day in Paris include a cooking class with La Cuisine Paris, visiting museums, embracing the rainy weather, and enjoying a meal at a Parisian café terrace. Check out this blog post for more rainy-day ideas in Paris.

I recommend packing a travel umbrella in your day bag for unexpected rain storms. Chelsea waterproof boots are a perfect option as the style is currently on trend in Paris.  Blondo boots also make high boots that go to the knee, which I love. They are trendy, and the flat boot is a great option for walking around the city.

Packing Tips for What to Wear in Paris: Accessories for Fall

what to wear in Paris in the fall

Layers are essential when preparing for fall in Paris: consider wearing scarves, t-shirts, or camisoles under your sweater, and a jacket. You can take off or add layers throughout the day, depending on the change in temperature or weather.

scarf for Paris in the fall

Paris outfits for the fall

Wide-leg and straight jeans are currently in trend.  When it comes to what to wear in Paris. Parisian women dress up with a more elevated put together look and layers are always important. A scarf, bag, bangle bracelets, a belt, are all accessories to add to your outfit to pull it together.

Parisian Neutral Color Palate: What to Pack for Paris in the Fall

Paris fall packing list
what to pack for paris in the autumn

Parisian women have a great sense of style and work around neutral colors. You can mix in a pop of color, but when packing for Paris in the autumn, basics work best with a few essential accessories. The Parisian-style capsule wardrobe is easy to accomplish with jeans, a little black dress, ballet flats, a white blouse, and cozy sweaters. These versatile pieces make it easy to mix and match to create different outfits. Some of my favorite color trends for fall are a pop of red or burgundy and olive green. You can add these in with jewelry, belts, or shoes.

The Best Carry-On Suitcase

AWAY suitcase

I highly recommend packing in a carry-on when traveling to Paris or any other European destination right now. This way, you don’t have to worry about not having your clothes (luggage getting lost) when you touchdown in Paris and can hit the ground running. The larger Away bag is a great carry-on bag.  I always shower, change into clean clothes, and freshen up when I land. Packing cubes can make a huge difference when packing in a carry-on suitcase. I love these from Away, which I have been using for years. You can easily pack what to wear in Paris for a week’s trip this way.

For my personal item on the flight, I typically carry my AWAY everywhere bag. It is large enough to hold my computer, chargers, camera, and everything I need to take my business to Paris. You can easily pack a change of clothes and toiletries in this bag. There are so many pockets to help you stay organized. One of the perks of this bag is that it slides right on top of my rolling suitcase, making it easy to navigate throughout the airport. If you are packing lighter and don’t need as much, I love the Cuyana top zip tote

Enjoy this printable Paris packing list that will help you plan what you need for your upcoming trip to Paris in the fall.

Coats to Wear in Paris: What to Pack for Paris in the Fall

A light or leather jacket will be great during the early months. If you check the weather forecast and there is rain, you might want to pack a stylish rain jacket. I say stylish because I would say leave your rain slicker at home. J.Crew has a cute one here if you are looking for ideas. I also recommend a trench coat. This is a hot trend in Paris, and it isn’t a coat worn just when it rains outside. You will see many Parisian women walking around in various colors of trench coats. The camel color is the most popular. I have one from Sézane that I always love to wear in Paris. J.Crew has an option for a trench coat here.

A leather jacket is also an excellent option for the earlier months of the fall season. You can pair this with a scarf and black pants and feel Parisian. I bought my leather jacket from Madewell, a piece that’s an investment (I got it on sale). Sézane also has a great option that I love. Quince has one that is a fraction of both the Madewell and Sézane jackets.

Sézane Coats for Paris

For colder days and nights of autumn in Paris, you will want a warmer coat and scarf. Sézane, J.Crew, and Other Stories all have great options. On my last trip to Paris in October, I noticed many Parisian women wearing navy, longer wool coats, and I purchased one last year that I’m eager to wear again this fall/winter.

Sweaters to Pack for Paris in the Autumn

In early to late September, you should be okay with lighter sweaters. Once the weather turns in October, you will want to pack chunkier sweaters for the colder months. I love the sweaters from Sézane, Tuckernuck, J.Crew, and Quince. The Gaspard sweater is a French girl staple and can be worn in three ways. I have it in multiple colors. I must pack at least one of my coziest sweaters in my closet for a rainy day in a Parisian café, for a little extra warmth for an outside terrace.

The Best Shoes for Walking in Paris in the Fall

Mederick wool belted coats Paris

I highly recommend packing comfortable walking shoes and leaving the high heels at home. They can be challenging to navigate in the cobblestone streets of Paris and aren’t worth it. For the fall, sneakers are a great option for walking around Paris. Please make sure they are comfortable. I highly recommend these Madewell sneakers, which I have worn for years. You need to break them in before you leave, or else you risk getting blisters. Once they are broken in, you will love them. Sneakers are perfectly acceptable in Paris right now and are even considered trendy. Sézane makes the jack sneaker, and there is also Véjas, a French brand.

When packing for Paris, I wear my heaviest pair of shoes on the plane. This frees up space in your luggage. Typically, I plan to wear a pair of sneakers in Paris.

Ballet flats are also comfortable shoes for walking around the city. I own these Margaux demi flats, which I repeatedly wear in Paris. I have been wearing ballet flats for years, and I am happy they are trending right now. Madewell makes the Gretta flat and is under $100.

French women are more natural when it comes to makeup. Mascara, eyeliner, a good concealer, and a red lip are all you need to look put together. Achieving good skincare and a glowy, healthy complexion is easy with French pharmacy products. Avène, Klorane, Bioderma, and Caudalie are some brands you will notice for sale almost everywhere. You can also buy these in the US, but they are less expensive in France.

Paris offers a lot to explore in the autumn months. Even a walk in the Parisian parks is an afternoon well spent with the changing colors and golden light. Check out this post for ideas on what to do in Paris in the fall.

Pack a camera. As a travel photographer, I always pack my camera when traveling to Paris. Currently, I am using and loving my Fuiji XT4. Your iPhone camera does a great job. Don’t feel the pressure of having a fancy camera for your trip to Paris. There are a few cute retro photobooths around Paris, and they make great souvenirs.

My travel steamer is one of my favorite purchases, and it was inspired by a trip to Paris a few years ago. Our hotel had this steamer in our room, which was a game changer. I was never a fan of ironing, but steaming brings me joy, and I love mine. The one I own is great for home use. Many of my friends have recommended this travel option, and I plan to purchase it for my upcoming trip in September.

With these additional items, you’ll be prepared to make the most of your trip to Paris.

Travel Accessories to Pack for Paris

Travel adaptors are so necessary. Some hotels will offer backups at the front desk if you have forgotten yours, and you can also pop into Monoprix to purchase one. I leave all my travel chargers and accessories in my tech pack to make sure I don’t forget anything when I travel. A portable charger isn’t a bad idea to pack in your day bag in case you need an extra charge towards the end of the day.

Getting around the city is easy. The Paris metro is available at all points around the city. I love walking the most because you can see so many details of the beautiful city. As a photographer, I am always finding something that catches my eye. One of my favorite times of the day to explore Paris is early in the morning before the city wakes up. The light is magical this time of year.

Travel Insurance for Paris

I hope this post helps prepare you for your next trip to Paris. Travel insurance is always a good idea. I use Faye Travel Insurance. My laptop and camera have health coverage for traveling in Europe. It is an added cost, but it provides peace of mind when traveling outside the US and staying in a hotel room.

When it came to packing for Paris for September, I was in a rush to get to the airport on time. I pulled a few key pieces I couldn’t wait to wear in the fall along with some great staples like comfortable walking shoes, denim from Frame, and my trusted Cuyana bag for walking around the city with my camera. This post includes everything I packed for Paris in September. My favorite new find was my plane pants from AYR.

P.S. don’t forget an umbrella like I did. It is one of the things I recommend to pack each trip because rain always seems to pop up in the forecast even when it is unexpected.

This *La Ligne sweater is a favorite and I pack it for Paris every trip. It is a bit oversized in a size small and so cozy for the plane or a colder day. Layer with a white t-shirt.

What I Packed for Paris in September 2025

September weather was on the warmer side. For the first time in years, I didn’t pack a trench. Did I regret it? 100%. The reason why is that it rained and it would have been nice to have with me as an extra layer. Parisian women were wearing trench coats in the rain and sun. They were so happy to be able to break out this key wardrobe staple once the weather turned a little cooler.

I packed this Jack blazer that was great for a shoot and happy I carried it on the plane with me.

The Best Walking Shoes for Paris

grey sweater Packing for Paris in September

My Cuyana zip tote is perfect for carrying around a notebook, pencil, and my camera. I am always jotting down ideas as Paris is what fuels my creativity.

These Sambas were $100 and perfect for walking all day. I averaged 20,000 steps a day and these were the hero of the trip. Size down .5 a size. I am usually a 8.5 and ordered an 8.

Kathrine loafer by Larroudé. When I pulled these out to shoot with my friend Katie she gasped and told me how much she loved them. Loafers are hot in Paris with and without socks.

Accessories for Paris in September

This black classic belt from Sézane came in handy and I wore it daily.

I packed the Paris sweater by Alex Mill in green. This color is sold out but they have a few other color options. I bought this last year and have worn it several times. It is a wardrobe staple and great with denim and a pair of flats.

Cos short sleeve sweater Paris

For sweaters, I packed this Cos short sleeve sweater that kept me cozy and warm during the unexpected rainstorm. My one pop of color was a burgundy sweater from Sézane that turned out to be one of the trending colors I saw on repeat in Paris. Very on trend.

Blouse and Denim for Paris

Frame Denim is my go to. I packed the borrowed denim and mellow. The darker black toned denim wash was a hot trend. I even had this conversation with one of my Parisian fashion meetings.

Frame polka dot blouse

This Frame blouse is a repeat piece from earlier in the summer. I packed it for South of France and I couldn’t wait to bring it to Paris. Paired with Frame denim.

This ME+EM blouse has become a staple and I have been wearing it on repeat. It was the first thing I grabbed out of my suitcase after refreshing at my hotel.

What I Wore on the Plane to Paris

For the plane, I wore these AYR pants with pockets and I have to say I am in love. I ordered them in a medium and they were so comfortable. Plus, they have pockets which is a bonus for travel. The perfect white t-shirt is from Splendid. For the flight, I wear compression socks from Bombas.

My May Paris Packing List

I wish I could say I was more organized for my latest trip to Paris and planned this post before I left. This post will highlight my May Paris packing list and share what I wore and skipped. I say that because I could easily pack in a carry-on for five nights and still had a few pieces left unworn. Due to the shift in weather, I wish I had packed one or two more sweaters. Chicago has still been colder, and I was looking forward to the warmer weather in Paris. As often as I have packed for a trip to Paris, I never get it right.

My bags are unpacked, laundry is clean, dry cleaning is completed, and life is as usual. Well, somewhat normal. I have been wrapping up the end of my first book, Paris Every Day, and my full attention has been on answering emails and getting edits to my team. Every day brings something new, a chapter to revise, photos to add, and we are so close to sending the whole book to the printer. Do you have your presale order in?

Before I leave for a trip, I will share a Paris agenda. That is coming soon, hopefully next week. I will share a recap of what I did, where I stayed, a few favorite discoveries, and restaurants. My trip was short but so full, and I loved every crazy minute of it.

My May Paris Packing List

Paris in May: What to Pack

When it comes to Paris, I always leave wanting more and something to cross off my list for my next visit. You may have seen glimpses of my days on Instagram or Substack. The weather before my arrival was hot, summer temperatures. Of course, as my luck would have it, the weather transitioned the day I arrived. It felt like summer, and the energy was high when my feet touched down in Paris. Just a few hours later, Paris was hit with a storm front bringing hail, and the temperatures dropped significantly. I didn’t mind the temperature shift and embraced the mild spring weather.

My husband jokes that all you need is a passport and a credit card, and you can always figure it out once you land.

What I Packed for Paris in May

Margaux Flats

Comfortable walking shoes are a must! I wore my Vejas on the plane and occasionally changed into my Margaux flats. I swear by them; they have been to Paris many times since I bought them five years ago.

This blouse from Frame (*gifted) has been a favorite, and I have repeatedly worn it. It was perfect for a night out for dinner with a friend.

what I packed for Paris in May

This is an outfit that was repeated from my March trip. I packed two pairs of Frame jeans for the win and a Sézane sweater.

The Hero Items of the Trip: What I Packed

I need to carry a zip-up tote bag with my camera and a notepad.

Paris journal

This one from Cuyana is my go-to and folds nicely in my suitcase. When I land, I will move the items to my tote and leave my suitcase at the reception until my room is ready.

Paris Packing List for May

Crossbody bags are currently on trend, and most Parisian women wear one. I love carrying them in the evening when I don’t need my camera. The crossbody bags I typically bring didn’t fit with my sneakers, and I regret it! Polène is a classic French brand that makes a great crossbody bag; I also love Sézane for its styles.

Coats for Paris in May

My Sézane trench was a hero item for Paris in May. Since the weather was chilly, I wore it daily.

I am always cold on the plane and love wearing this sweater from La Ligne. It is a bit oversized and fits over a great pair of stretchy plane pants. Once I got to Paris, I could throw the sweater around my shoulders with a T-shirt.

Beauty Favorites: My May Paris Packing List

cadence capsules

I love these Cadence parcels and capsules. All of my favorite products, like my shampoo and conditioner from Roz, fit in these capsules, making them easy to travel with. The parcels are also TSA-friendly, which is a bonus. I typically will check a bag for the flight home; I bought some skincare products, butter, and cheese that needed to be checked. Beauty products will go in my checked bag to make going through security a breeze on the way home. I don’t have to remove all my liquids and stress about having to close up my bag again.

Also, these travel Elemis pieces made my skincare routine easy to pack for Paris.

This post shows you more of my favorite travel essential beauty products.

My Luggage for Paris in May

May Paris Packing List

I am loyal to my Away bags and bring the larger carry-on and the everywhere bag for my personal items. The bag fits my camera, charger, laptop, and other essentials. I typically pack a Longchamp travel bag that rolls up nicely. It is perfect for filling any additional items I buy to carry home. I will have another post sharing what I purchased. Some items were a little unexpected, and I am happy I carried them home for great memories.

What I Packed for Paris in May and Didn’t Wear

I had grand plans to work out at my hotel gym with weights, so I packed workout clothes and sneakers. This took up a good amount of room, and most of the items sat in my closet for the trip. I averaged 25,000 steps a day, and my days were full of being out and about, so it never worked out with timing. My camera battery needed to be replaced, or my phone needed to be charged, which was a quick trip back to the hotel. I did make Pilates a priority, and the fact that it was a scheduled class held me more accountable. A friend recently opened a studio in Paris, and I enjoy her classes. The boulangerie on the walk over has one of the best croissants.

Sunscreen for Paris

Baseball caps are trending in Paris, and more retailers are offering them. I wore mine on the plane and thought I would wear them more often than I did. Sadly, I did not consider that using my camera while wearing a baseball cap was nearly impossible. Sunglasses and sunscreen are always non-negotiables for me. I keep sunscreen in my bag for easy reapplication. The sunscreen sticks are great for the face and are way better for preventing a spill or leak from a liquid. Caudalie makes a great one, and so does Avène. Once the weather turns, pharmacies will have sunscreen products front and center.

What I Packed for Paris in the Spring

Earlier this month, I was back in Paris for early spring.  My last Paris trip was in January to capture images of Paris in the winter and holiday decor for The Print Shop later this year. This time, I returned to the city of light to research new restaurants, hotels, and museums for blog content and updates for The Paris Guide. You can see my whole Paris agenda here. Spring in Paris is filled with unpredictable weather, making it challenging to pack. It is a good idea to pack layers for warm and colder temperatures. Make sure to check the weather forecast before your trip. Call me stubborn, but I never like to admit when the weather will not go my way. This past trip was cold and rainy, but that is typically what you get in early April in Paris.

What I packed for Paris in the spring everyday parisian

What to Pack for Paris in April

Paris what to pack for Paris in the spring

The weather can be unpredictable, but I always recommend expecting a few rainy days if you visit Paris in the spring. My usual carry-on bag from Away had a broken zipper, and at the last minute, I had to scramble to pack it into my Cuyana bag. It was as if I was running out the door and had forgotten an umbrella in the shuffle. This portable umbrella is affordable and holds well in the rain and wind. Your hotel or rental should offer an umbrella. Our hotel room had a larger umbrella as an amenity, and every time we left the hotel, they provided us with a dry one.

I get a lot of questions about what to pack, especially this time of year. I hope this post offers packing inspiration for your upcoming trip.

The post above is shoppable. You can click on the + to capture any details and shop.

If you are headed to Paris in the spring, you can look at this blog post for packing ideas.

As you will see with the collages below, many of the items I am packing can be mixed and matched to create new outfits. Packing with packing cubes helps keep everything organized, and I swear I have more space.

Sweaters for Spring in Paris

cashmere sweater is a great layering piece as an extra layer on colder days. I typically put a basic tee under any of my sweaters. This Gaspard sweater is always a favorite, and I own it in 3 colors. I wear the Betty often and have packed it in navy for this trip.

One thing I regret is not packing more sweaters. The weather was chilly, and I reached for sweaters more than anything else in my wardrobe. This cream waffle sweater was a good choice.

Paris Sweaters to Pack for Spring

I packed a few different pairs of jeans for Paris. Straight-leg, skinny, and wider-legged jeans, like the ones I am wearing here, are very much in. I have black jeans, white jeans, and a pair of denim to mix and match for different Paris outfits. A capsule wardrobe for spring can make life so much easier with neutral colors to mix and match.

Paris red sweater from Sézane

I am also packing this red striped shirt that I bought in October.

sezane trench coat for Paris in the spring

Shoes for Paris in the Spring

Comfortable walking shoes are essential as the best way to see Paris is on foot, and you should plan to do a lot of walking. This is my one challenge as I pack because I want to bring multiple pairs of shoes. I still need a good solid shoe for wet weather if it rains, which would be these Chelsea Boots.  When packing shoes for Paris, I always recommend wearing the bulkiest pair on the plane and packing the lighter pairs in your suitcase so they don’t take up as much room. Comfortable shoes for walking around Paris are an absolute must. Break in new shoes before packing them for Paris.

Margaux Ballet Flats for Paris

Ballet flats are very much in right now, and my favorites are these from Margaux. A tie at the top makes them adjustable if you feel they aren’t fitting right. You can tie the bow to make them work for your feet, making all the difference. White sneakers are trendy right now in French fashion for men and women. Vejas are my favorite, typically available at different retailers such as NordstromNeiman Marcus (currently in stock in all sizes), and Anthropologie. They have been sold out in many places, so check back for restocks. You can always buy them at a Vejas or department store in Paris, such as Galleries Lafayette or BHV. I have packed and worn my Chelsea boots for the colder parts of spring.

Sandals and espadrilles are great options as the weather transitions to warmer days. I hate to admit it, but Birkenstocks or a similar style are popping up all across Europe, so don’t be surprised to see these in France this spring and summer.

High heels are beautiful but not ideal on the cobblestone streets of Paris. Leave them at home unless you plan on taking a car to and from dinner. Unless it’s fashion week, you won’t see them on many French women.

Pack in Layers for Spring Weather

trench coat and scarf tied as accessory for spring

Layers are essential for spring weather. On warmer days, you can take off a sweater or jacket and wear a short-sleeved T-shirt underneath. Basic tees are always a great way to layer in the spring. I have one in every color. There will be a mix of sunny days and rain, so plan a few different outfit ideas. A nice blouse with jeans is perfect for the evening. Try a silk scarf tied around your neck on cooler days as an accessory. I have also tied it on one of my bags for a pop of color. The French typically wear a scarf during all seasons. It is lighter in the spring and summer and a chunky, heavier scarf in the colder months.

Paris farrow Sézane bag with scarf

Neutral Color Palette for Paris in the Spring

I pulled together many of the items I planned on packing for Paris, and they are all neutral colors of black, brown, white, and denim. This makes it very easy to create different outfits from wardrobe staples.

The Best Bag for Walking Around Paris

Sézane crossbody bag for Paris

A crossbody bag is an excellent option for walking around Paris. The most important thing is to have a bag with a zipper to keep all your items secure. I love the Cuyana zip tote and a Longchamp bag for outings. This Polène bag is also great and a personal favorite.

Spring Dresses for Paris

Staud white dress size 6

This Staud white dress is what I packed for Paris last year. My dates in Paris were more towards mid April and the weather we had warm weather. I love the fit of this dress so much and would purchase it in another color. Wearing a size 6.

red pippa dress Sézane

I always love a little black dress for evenings out. April is my birthday month and I usually do a photo shoot with Katie Donnelly and wear my signature red. This dress is comfortable and an easy travel piece if you have day trips planned. I paired it with a leather jacket and ballet flats. We had beautiful weather for the shoot and really lucked out.

red Sézane dress Paris spring

If the weather is warm enough during your visit, enjoy a picnic in Paris. The Eiffel Tower is the perfect spot especially while the cherry blossoms are in bloom.

Coats for Paris in the Spring

leather jacket Paris Madewell

Due to the varying weather temperatures, I love packing a trench coat and leather jacket for Paris. If the weather is freezing, you can always layer the leather jacket under the trench coat, as I did in October. The trench coat can instantly pull an outfit together, and you can throw it over a pair of skinny jeans or a dress with a pair of shoes.

If you are heading to Paris towards the end of spring, you might want to swap the leather jacket for a light jacket instead. I often get the question of how to pack for multiple coats. The trench is what I wear on the plane. They can hang it up for you if you ask when you board. For my leather coat, that jacket gets folded into my suitcase on top.

Paris Sézane trench coat everyday parisian

Makeup/Beauty

I have a lot of Biossance and Caudalie minis I am bringing for travel.

My makeup will be minimal, but I am packing a lip twist and this lipstick from Sisley. I love the Merit products, especially the concealer/foundation stick, mascara, and cheeky blush.

As you plan your packing list, I always suggest leaving the gym wear at home or saving it as your travel wardrobe for the plane. You won’t see many Parisians dress in activewear unless they go to or from a call or the gym.

P.S. This post shows my travel essentials for flying to Paris.

What to Pack for a Trip to Paris

Packing for an international trip can be overwhelming, especially if you haven’t done it before or it has been a while. I hope you find my tips below helpful and relieve some stress when packing for a trip to Paris. This will help ensure you have a great time in my favorite city!

What to Pack for Paris

What to Pack for Paris

Paris is a bucket-list destination for travelers. It was on the top of my list when I was younger, and I finally made it a reality just before my 21st birthday. I have been going back ever since and now consider myself an expert in the city. It truly is my second home.

Paris Packing List

The city of Paris can be expensive. I would compare the prices to those of any major city like New York City. To help reduce any additional costs from traveling, it’s essential to pack everything you need instead of paying any additional costs that may eat into your travel budget. I always forget to pack a scarf and have picked up many at Galleries Lafayette in a pinch.

If you find packing lists helpful, I created this Paris packing list PDF that you can download and print to help you prepare for your upcoming trip.

Parisian Capsule Wardrobe Essentials

Paris is considered to be one of the world’s fashion capitals. If you want to fit in and not stand out as a tourist, you want to dress the part. I always take notes when in Paris on what the Parisian women are wearing. This blog post is about the fashion trends I spotted on my last trip.

If you want helpful ideas on what to pack in a carry-on, I put together this capsule wardrobe post with essential items and neutral colors (vs. bright colors) that can help you build a stylish wardrobe with different outfits without bringing a giant suitcase. I typically pack in a carry-on bag. This is the easiest way to ensure you have all your belongings when you land and take the stress out of travel. There are so many bags being lost and travel headaches right now.

Montmartre cobblestone streets

The streets of Paris are pretty flat unless you are walking up towards Montmartre, where you will encounter cobblestone streets. There are several ways to get around the city. I think walking is the best. You get to see so much of the city this way. When you compare how long it will take to get to your destination via metro/bus or walking, I would walk if it isn’t too much of a difference and you have the time.

Paris spring capsule wardrobe everyday parisian

In terms of safety, I try to stay away from a travel backpack.

cuyana tote

It’s easy to get in and out of if it’s on your back and you’re not paying attention. I highly recommend a top zip tote for my day bag. I use this one from Cuyana. It holds my camera, a small travel wallet, a reusable water bottle, and a small umbrella inside.

what to pack for Paris

A crossbody bag is a great idea if you travel light around the city. I typically bring one out in the evening for dinner. Rive Droite is a modern take on the “fanny pack” worn across the chest. This trend is very popular among Parisian women.

Way before Google Maps, I learned about the city of Paris by walking and getting lost. I love the side streets, passageways, and hidden gems you can discover while seeing the city on foot. It’s how I found all my best photos for The Print Shop.

the best walking shoes for Paris

The Best Walking Shoes for Paris

Paris outfits for sightseeing

You will want at least one pair of comfortable shoes for walking around. I love these Madewell sneakers, which are under $100. I wear an 8.5. My feet swell a bit when I walk a lot, so it is always great to have some wiggle room. I recommend adding this Moleskin to the back of your sneakers and any other shoes before bringing them to Paris.

This adds a little extra cushion at the back and reduces the chance of blisters. I also recently purchased these Vejas sneakers, part of Parisian fashion. Just make sure you break in both shoes before traveling. This is the best way to avoid any blisters.

French women won’t wear high heels much around Paris unless it’s for Fashion Week. Heels aren’t the most practical when it comes to cobblestone streets. Depending on the season, stylish walking shoes, flats, and boots are the way to go. For ballet flats, I love these from Margaux NYC.

Coats to Pack for Paris

wool coat Sézane Paris

In the spring/fall, I recommend a good trench coat and leather jacket for transitional weather. Summer can be tricky; having at least one layer for rainy days or in case the temperatures drop at night is good. I love a denim jacket for this. A good wool jacket, hat, gloves, and scarf are essential for colder months. Winter can be damp and chilly.

Coats to pack for Paris

The weather forecast in Paris can be unpredictable. You will want to prepare for rain during any season. We were fortunate to have some fantastic weather in October. This is not always the case. Water-resistant shoes, a raincoat, and a travel umbrella are good.

Packing List for Spring in Paris

Packing List for Spring in Paris

The weather in spring in Paris can vary from rainy and cold to warm weather and sunny. It’s best to be prepared with layers, an umbrella, water-resistant shoes, and a coat. I highly recommend packing a leather jacket and a trench coat if possible. These great layering pieces keep you warm and dry in the spring. For a light sweater, I highly recommend this one from Sézane.

There are some important things to note when traveling to Paris in different seasons. Packaging a little black dress any time of the year is an excellent option. You never know when you might need it.

What to Pack for a Trip to Paris in the Summer

The weather in Paris in the summer months can be sweltering. Typically, Parisians leave the city in July/August and escape to the beach or South of France. August can be empty, which is usually when Americans want to travel to Paris due to vacation schedules. Many businesses and restaurants will close in August and reopen in September. I always mention that to friends as they book trips to Paris in the summer.

I visited Paris in July, and there was a heat wave. It was 10:00 p.m., and the sun was still out, and it was hot. I was lucky to have air conditioning in my hotel room. Apartment rentals are not always that lucky. Make sure to take that into account when you are making summer bookings.

Pack light layers, linen, dresses, and skirts. Don’t forget sunscreen and a jacket if it does turn cool in the evenings. I like to travel with a light coat and scarf as an extra layer, even in the summer, as the planes are always chilly. This is a great way to pack a layer by wearing it on the plane.

If you are curious about wearing short shorts in Paris, you can read this blog post and make your own decision.

Packing List for Paris in the Fall

The fall is one of my favorite times to visit Paris. The weather can be warm and beautiful in October before transitioning to colder weather in late October and early November. I have had some fantastic weather weeks in the fall. You will still need to pack layers, and I highly recommend waterproof boots. Blondo is my favorite brand for comfortable waterproof boots. Blondo boots will have more styles in the fall. I anticipate they will restock a boot similar to this photo. For me, this was THE BEST selling item of 2022 for a good reason.

Check out this post for more details on what to pack for Paris in the fall. I break down the best boots, coats, sweaters, and accessories.

Packing List for Paris in the Fall

A capsule wardrobe should consist of a pair of wide-leg jeans or trousers, a blazer, sweater, blouse, scarf, and trench coat. A wool coat is ideal for colder months in the fall.

Paris in Fall

What to Pack for a Trip to Paris in Autumn

What to Pack for a Trip to Paris in the Winter

A hat, gloves, scarf, and a nice wool coat are essential to keeping warm in the winter. Sézane has some great coats. This one below has been a part of my wardrobe for three years and sis till going strong. It’s a classic staple. Investing in a high-quality coat that will keep you warm is an excellent idea if you have the budget.

Winter in Paris is filled with colder days, and thick sweaters are essential. I like to pack at least one thick sweater for café days when it is too cold or rainy to do anything but people-watching. Cafés on some main streets like Saint Germain des Près are great places to wait out rain while staying dry. It may not be the most beautiful weather, but I think Paris in the winter is one of the best times to see the city as more of a local without tourists. You will get the authentic feel of the city and see how the French people live.

Travel Essentials I Pack in My Carry-On Bag for Paris

A travel adapter is always a good idea. I have this inexpensive one with USB chargers on the side so that you can charge multiple devices simultaneously.

Hand sanitizer, an extra charger or (power bank) for charging on the go, and melatonin gummies (I swear by these) should be in an easy-access pocket in your item. There have been too many times when I have struggled to locate them once I had boarded my flight.

For security reasons. I keep my belongings safe in my Paris rental apartment or hotel. I only bring one credit card while walking around with my ID. Also, I keep a small wallet with room for euros in it. Most of Paris accepts Apple Pay or Touch payment. You will run across some cash-only places, so it is a good idea to carry some on you at all times. The boulangerie will take cash unless it’s a larger order, and you can use a card. If you pick up a croissant, you will need a few euros. Also, this goes for the same the local market. Cash is preferred, but a card will most likely be an option if you order a few pieces of cheese or more produce/veggies.

Cell service. I can switch my Verizon plan on for $10 a day. This ORANGE SIM card is a great and affordable option if I have a more extended trip. You swap out your current SIM card for the ORANGE one and switch it back at the end of the journey. I recommend using WhatsApp instead of text messages to avoid confusing threads.

Don’t forget the travel insurance. I use World Nomads for trips out of the country.

What I am Packing for Paris in the Spring

This week, I am headed back to Paris. My last Paris trip was in January to capture images of Paris in the winter and holiday decor for The Print Shop later this year. This time, I am returning to the city of light to research new restaurants, hotels, and museums for blog content and updates for The Paris Guide. Spring in Paris is filled with unpredictable weather, so it can be challenging and a good idea to pack layers for warm and colder temperatures. Make sure to check the weather forecast before your trip. Below is what I am packing for spring in Paris.

Tuileries Gardens in the spring

Below is a look at what I am packing for Paris this spring:

The post above is shoppable. You can click on the + to capture any details and shop.

If you are headed to Paris in the spring, you can look at this blog post for packing ideas.

As you will see with the collages below, many of the items I am packing can be mixed and matched to create new outfits. Packing with packing cubes helps keep everything organized, and I swear I have more space.

Sweaters for Spring in Paris

A cashmere sweater is a great layering piece as an extra layer on colder days. I typically put a basic tee under any of my sweaters. This Gaspard sweater is always a favorite, and I own it in 3 colors. The Charlotte sweater is a new favorite and will be great for Paris in the spring.

I am also packing this red striped shirt that I bought in October.

sezane trench coat for Paris in the spring

Jeans and Tops for Paris in the Spring

I have a few pairs of jeans packed for Paris. Straight-leg jeans and skinny jeans are very much still in. Black jeans, white, and a denim pair to mix and match for different Paris outfits. These from Frank & Eileen are new favorites for denim, and I also have a few long sleeve button-down shirts to pair with them.

Shoes for Paris in the Spring

Comfortable walking shoes are key as the best way to see Paris is on foot, and you should plan to do a lot of walking. This is my one challenge as I pack because I want to bring four pairs of shoes. I still need a good solid shoe for wet weather if it rains, which would be these Chelsea Boots. Last year, I wore my pair of ankle boots almost the entire time because it was freezing. The weather forecast looks more optimistic this time around. I always recommend wearing the bulkiest pair of shoes on the plane and packing the lighter pairs in your suitcase so they don’t take up as much room. Comfortable shoes for walking around Paris are an absolute must.

Ballet flats are very much in right now, and my favorites are these from Margaux. A tie at the top makes them adjustable if you feel they aren’t fitting right. You can tie the bow to make them work for your feet, making all the difference. I fell in love with this pair of loafers in brown. White Sneakers are very in right now for French fashion for men and women. Vejas are my favorite, typically available at different retailers such as Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus (currently in stock in all sizes), and Anthropologie. They have been sold out many places, so check back for restocks. You can always buy them at a Vejas or department store in Paris like Galleries Lafayette or BHV.

High heels are beautiful but not ideal on the cobblestone streets of Paris. Leave them at home unless you plan on taking a car to and from dinner. You won’t see them on many French women unless its fashion week.

Madewell sneakers and leather jacket for Paris in the spring

Neutral Color Palette for Paris in the Spring

I pulled together many of the items I planned on packing for Paris, and they are all neutral colors of black, brown, white, and denim. This makes it very easy to create different outfits from wardrobe staples.

The Best Bag for Walking Around Paris

A crossbody bag is an excellent option for walking around Paris. The most important thing is to have a bag with a zipper to keep all your items secure. I love the Cuyana zip tote and a Longchamp bag for out and about. This Polène bag is also great and a personal favorite.

Spring Dresses for Paris

Two dresses are packed right now for spring. I don’t expect the weather to be too warm, but these will pair nicely with a leather jacket. This black belted dress makes the perfect little black dress with sandals or flats. I have my eye on a pair of espadrilles from Sézane that I plan on picking up to pair with this dress. This white dress fits so well; it could also pair with espadrilles or sandals.

Spring Paris Accessories

Scarf A scarf is always a good layering piece to keep warm.

Sunglasses I am hoping for some sunshine during this trip. I love these Rayban glasses. The brand Jimmy Fairly is similar to Warby Parker in France; you will find them in several areas of Paris. This is a great spot to pick up a pair of Parisian sunglasses. I have bought two pairs from here in the past.

Umbrella This looks like it will be essential. Plus, you never know when you will need it, especially in spring.

Coats for Paris in the Spring

Due to the varying weather temperatures, I love packing a trench coat and leather jacket for Paris. If the weather is really cold, you can always layer the leather jacket under the trench coat, as I did in October. The trench coat can instantly pull an outfit together, and you can throw it over a pair of skinny jeans or a dress with shoes.

If you are heading to Paris towards the end of spring, you might want to swap the leather jacket for a light jacket instead.

Madewell leather jacket for Paris spring weather

Sezane trench coat Paris in the spring

Makeup/Beauty

I have a lot of Biossance and Caudalie minis I am bringing for travel.

My makeup will be minimal, but I am packing a lip twist and this lipstick from Sisley. I love the Merit products, especially the concealer/foundation stick, mascara, and cheeky blush.

As you plan your packing list, I always suggest leaving the gym wear at home or saving it as your travel wardrobe for the plane. You won’t see many Parisians dress in activewear unless they go to or from a call or the gym.

P.S. This post shows my travel essentials for flying to Paris.

Paris in October what to pack

What to Pack for Paris in October

I am finally back in Paris! It feels so good to be back in my favorite city. I currently have a view of the Eiffel Tower from my window while I work. Also, I had a café crème at the café at the base of my apartment while I waited for friends to arrive. I ended up checking a bag which is something I haven’t done in years. It just seemed easier when it came to all the extra items I brought for 2 weeks.

Here is a breakdown of what I brought with me. I know I will be shopping a bit at Sézane.

For coats:

I brought my leather Madewell jacket and this military green jacket. I plan on buying a new trench coat in Paris.

It was a last-minute decision but due to the weather, I left my heavier Sezane jacket at home. I highly recommend this for colder months.

Shoes for Paris in the Fall

I brought his pair of Madewell sneakers which are perfect for walking the streets of Paris.

These Chelsea Boots

A pair of Blondo waterproof boots

A pair of brown riding boots.

Umbrella I always prepare for rain in Paris. The hotels/apartments don’t offer compact umbrellas that can fit in your bag so I am bringing this one. It is expected to rain the day I land but should be sunny the rest of the time. Fingers crossed!

Sunscreen

Sunglasses. I love Jimmy Fairly so I may pop in for a pair of sunglasses when I am back.

My Cuyana Top Zip Tote is perfect for being out and about in Paris. I keep my camera and small wallet in here. Having a top zipper is essential for keeping belongings safe.

For my toiletries, I have this Cuyana leather bag and a small toiletry bag for makeup.

I always mask up before I fly to keep my skin from drying out. I did this Caudalie detoxifying mask first followed by the Sisley sleep mask and under-eye mask.

Tech

I have a new Fuji XT4 that I love and is so much lighter than my previous canons. I have always brought my Canon DSLR to Paris and this is the first time not bringing it. It will be so much easier on my back.

I always travel with my external drive to back up my images as I shoot. I have a second larger one at home as a backup.

After two years away, I am finally returning to Paris in the Fall. It is one of the most magical times to visit Paris. There is nothing like the golden light of Autumn. The sunsets are the most vibrant colors of the year. The ivy turns from green to red slowly through the city and the leaves fall all over the city.

As you walk the Seine or through Luxembourg gardens the leaves crunch under your boots and cover the ground and sidewalks. I hope this post prepares you for an upcoming trip to Paris for what to pack. This is the list I would share with any friend who is planning for a trip to Paris in the Fall.

If you are a list person like me, you can download this checklist as you pack. It helps me make sure I don’t forget anything!

trees and buildings

The first and most important thing to pack is a good pair of shoes. Sneakers are back in as long as they look stylish. Leave the Nikes at home. I love these sneakers from Madewell, Sézane also has a few options.

For boots, there are so many options. I love a black Chelsea boot or an over-the-knee boot.

I always recommend blouses and a pair or two of good jeans to get you around the city. Leave the joggers and sweats from 2020 at home and dress up in Paris.

Sweaters

Sweaters are essential in the Fall. You are going to want to pack a few light ones and one or two heavier ones. If you arrive towards the tail end of Fall, it does get chilly. You will want to layer up if you are walking around the city.

This Gaspard sweater from Sézane is a French girl essential. I own it in two colors and will most likely add it to my collection this year.

Accessories

So, I always need a good bag to tote around Paris. Also, I highly recommend a top zip tote to keep your belongings safe. I love my Cuyana bag. Scarves are essential for layering up in the colder months. I have always bought one in Paris because I forget to pack one. Hats, gloves should also be packed taking into consideration how close you are planning a trip to Winter.

Dresses

Coats

A solid warm coat is much needed on a trip to Fall. I bought this one from Sézane a few years ago and will be bringing it to Paris this trip. It’s a great investment that keeps me warm. You can always layer sweaters underneath and add a scarf.

I always plan for rain in some part of my trip so pack to be prepared. A trench coat, waterproof boots, and an umbrella should do the trick. If you do get caught in the rain, here are a few ideas so you don’t feel stranded.

I officially leave on Wednesday night which means I should probably start thinking about what I am packing for Paris. I am packing in a carryon for Paris and Hong Kong so things are going to have to be creative. My Away Suitcase has been one of my favorite purchases of the whole year and has been around the world with me.

I will be in two very different climates so it is important to dress in layers. I can go lighter in Hong Kong. The weather in Hong Kong will be in the 80’s and Paris will be in the high 40’s and rain. Here lies my challenge.

Outerwear

This weekend, I broke out the new Sézane coat just to make sure I would be warm enough in Paris. I have been keeping this zipped up and hanging in my closet since Summer. I added a scarf and it was good to go even at night walking on the water where it felt like it was 30 degrees. I will wear this on the plane no need to pack it and it will save extra space. I don’t normally wear a hat, but someone reminded me that I should pack one. I have these tech gloves that I got for a gift last year and love them.

Sézane Johnson Camel Coat

My Camera and Cuyana

I carry two cameras one has multiple lenses and the newer one is much lighter and has one fixed lens. I am getting used to using this one more and more and it is much easier on my back.

I don’t go anywhere without my Cuyana bag. For a full list of everything I carry with me on a day out, you can read this post.

Sweaters

The weather right now is looking like rain is in the forecast for a big portion of my trip. I always recommend packing at least one café sweater for Paris. This is one comfortable and warm sweater for sitting at a café while it rains. I am bringing this one which I bought at the Nordstrom Sale earlier this year. I got it in a size S and returned it for an XS since it runs big. This has been a customer favorite.

cafe sweater for Paris Free People Red Sweater

I am bringing two Sézane sweaters, one red and one hunter green. I bought them both last year and I have worn them on repeat.

Jeans

madewell denim

I typically bring three pairs of jeans. Two are from Madewell, one dark and one black and one pair of Hudsons. I wear one pair on the plane and two I will pack rolled in my suitcase.

Dress

leith dress nordstrom

The Leith Long sleeve dress that I have been raving about for a year is perfect to wear in Fall weather with tights and Blondo knee-high boots and in Hong Kong without tights. Plus, it is only $50. I own it in multiple colors.

Boots

blondo to the knee boots

My space is limited so I am going to do my best with two pairs of boots. I am wearing the Blondo knee-high boots and Blondo ankle boots.

Toiletries

My Cuyana bags have been on every trip with me small or large. The smaller one holds my makeup and the larger one holds all my skincare.

I have been getting a lot of messages from readers asking about the weather in Paris and what to pack for Fall. People are struggling with footwear (boots vs loafers) and jackets. I hope this helps answer questions and prepare you on what to pack as the city transitions from Indian Summer to full-on Fall in Paris.

Coat

red coat paris france image by katie donnelly of rebecca plotnick everyday parisian

From early Fall to the middle of Fall. You can get away with a trench coat, leather jacket, or long duster. As the weather transitions. I recommend bringing a wool coat. I made the mistake and ended up buying a Sandro coat a few years ago. This year, I will be bringing my new Sézane coat. I have been waiting to break it out since Summer.

Basic T-Shirt/Cami for Layering

The weather can be cold and damp in the late Fall and into Winter. It is always good to dress in layers. I love bodysuits and camis for under sweaters. The new French look is to style a t-shirt under a blazer. A classic white t-shirt can be found just about anywhere. There are great options at JCrew and Everlane for under $25.

Blazer

Now that you have the perfect t-shirt. Layer up with a classic navy, black or plaid (if you are feeling fancy) blazer. I brought a navy one to Paris this Spring and loved wearing it.

Sweater

I always recommend one “café sweater” for Paris. By café sweater, I mean one large chunky knit for sitting at a café on a terrace for extended people-watching on a rainy day. I bought his one from Free People in red and plan on wearing it in November.

Scarf

If you forget to pack one, you can easily pick one up at Galleries Lafayette. This will bring you for some of the best views of the city and they also offer free ice skating from late November through December for Christmas. The scarf is the essential Parisian accessory. Even in the Summer, you will see a light scarf tied around the neck.

Button Down Blouse

Pair a button down blouse with your perfect pair of denim for a meeting or date night. I always like to pack one classic white button down blouse in my suitcase because you never know when you might need it. Even when I am very jet lagged, it can make me feel put together.

Denim

My grandma would not approve, but you can pretty much wear denim anywhere these days. Dress up a pair of jeans with a pair of heels or booties. I pack three pairs of jeans for a week in Paris to rotate. I do dress up on the plane with one pair and will pack dark denim and black denim along with a medium wash. I don’t love the lighter washes but that is just a personal preference.

I have also started to wear higher rise jeans. I have a long torso so it works for me. I have a few pair of Madewell jeans and love them. They hold up well and don’t stretch out too much between washes.

Midi Dress

The midi trend is around and here to stay. Long midi coats were everywhere last Winter and skirts and dresses are continuing with the midi length. I am 5’7” and still think the midi length looks terrible on me. I wish I could pass it off. I do love the pleated midi skirts in every color.

Tote Bag

By now you know I love my Cuyana bag. It is the perfect day out bag for Paris. Plus, the top zipper is essential for safety in Paris. You can see everything I carry in a day out in Paris in this post.

Booties/Over the Knee Boots

Last October, I saw a girl riding an electric scooter with over the knee boots on. I tried to snap a photo but she moved by pretty quickly. The trends we get in the US come from Europe, I like to think if I find a trend in Paris I know it will be around for at least another year or two. Over the Knee Boots are here to stay. I love mine and have already worn them a few times this Fall.

When it comes to boots, I always recommend Blondos. They are comfortable walking shoes for all over Paris and the fact that they are waterproof means you will never be caught out in the rain with wet feet. They are stylish and the price point is under $200. I have been buying them for years and mine from 4 years ago have still held up all this time.

Sunglasses

Even in the Fall/Winter you can expect a little bit of sun in Paris and sunglasses are a great Parisian accessory. I personally love Jimmy Fairly. They are the Warby Parker of France and donate a pair to someone in need for each pair sold. Their sunglasses are priced around 100 euros. I had a favorite pair from here and lost them at a café so I replaced them. They have stores all over Paris and make a perfect souvenir to take home which won’t take up too much space in your bag.
